Celebrating Navarathri at Sivan Arul Illam: Keeping Our Traditions Alive

A celebration of faith, culture, and togetherness at Sivan Arul Girls’ Home.

Festivals are more than celebrations. They bring people together, strengthen cultural connections, and create memories that remain with us for years.

At Sivan Arul Illam Girls’ Home, Navarathri was celebrated with devotion, happiness, and a beautiful sense of togetherness. Our girls gathered to take part in traditional prayers and religious observances, making the occasion a meaningful experience for everyone at the home.

A Celebration Filled with Faith and Devotion

The home was beautifully decorated with flowers, banana leaves, traditional oil lamps, and colourful arrangements honouring the divine.

At the centre of the celebration was a carefully decorated prayer altar, where our girls gathered to participate in Navarathri observances.

The atmosphere was filled with warmth and devotion as the children came together for prayers, listened to guidance from their caregivers, and shared in the traditions that make this festival special.

These moments were not simply about observing a religious festival. They were also opportunities for our children to experience the beauty of their cultural heritage.

Keeping Our Culture and Traditions Alive

Navarathri holds a special place in Tamil Hindu culture, celebrating the divine feminine through nine nights of worship and reflection.

For the children at Sivan Arul Illam, participating in celebrations like this provides an opportunity to understand the traditions, beliefs, and values passed down through generations.

From the beautifully arranged decorations to the shared prayers, every part of the celebration helped connect our girls with their cultural roots.

At Sivan Arul Foundation, we believe that preserving cultural identity is an important part of a child’s development. Alongside education and daily care, we encourage opportunities that help children understand their heritage and develop a strong sense of belonging.

More Than a Festival, a Feeling of Family

One of the most meaningful parts of the celebration was seeing our girls gathered together.

Sitting side by side, participating in prayers, and sharing the experience with their caregivers created an atmosphere of unity and belonging.

For children growing up in residential care, these shared experiences are especially valuable. They help create a sense of family, strengthen relationships, and build happy memories.

At Sivan Arul, our goal is not only to provide a safe place to live but also to create a home where every child feels valued, supported, and connected.

Celebrations like Navarathri are a beautiful reflection of that commitment.

Creating Memories That Last

As the celebrations came to an end, we were reminded that some of the most meaningful moments in a child’s life are found in simple experiences.

A shared prayer, a beautifully decorated home, time spent together, and the opportunity to participate in familiar traditions can all contribute to a child’s sense of happiness and belonging.

We are grateful to our caregivers, staff, and everyone who helps make these meaningful experiences possible for our children.

From all of us at Sivan Arul Foundation, we extend our warmest Navarathri wishes to our friends, families, supporters, and well-wishers around the world.

May this festival bring peace, happiness, and blessings to every home.
