When severe flooding affected parts of the Mannar District, families were left struggling to meet even their most basic needs. In moments like these, compassion, unity, and timely action make all the difference.
At Sivanarul Foundation, we believe that meaningful impact comes from collective effort. Our recent flood relief initiative in Mannar is a reflection of that belief in action.
A Community-Led Relief Effort
What made this initiative especially meaningful was the involvement of our children and students. Every relief parcel distributed to affected families was carefully packed by our children, with guidance and support from our team. The actual distribution was carried out by senior students and staff, ensuring that aid reached the families who needed it most.
This hands-on involvement not only strengthened the relief effort but also instilled values of empathy, responsibility, and service among our young people.
Support That Made It Possible
This relief work was made possible through the incredible generosity of everyone who donated to support families affected by the floods.
So far, we have raised a total of $30,500, made up of:
- $17,500 raised in Australia
- $10,500 contributed through Gandhi Illam in New Zealand
- Additional local support that helped bridge urgent needs
Each contribution—big or small—played a vital role in providing food, essential supplies, and hope to flood-affected households.
Reaching Families in Mannar
The packed relief items were distributed across affected areas in Mannar District, with careful coordination to ensure fair and timely delivery. For many families, this support arrived at a crucial moment, easing immediate hardships caused by displacement, damaged homes, and lost livelihoods.
Looking Ahead
While this phase of relief work has made an important difference, the needs of affected communities continue. We are looking forward to receiving further donations so we can extend our support and assist more families as they recover from the impact of the floods.
