When an unexpected fire struck the Sivan Arul Girls Home, fear and uncertainty could have defined the day. But instead, it became a story of hope, resilience, and the incredible power of community.
WHAT HAPPENED
It began with a spark—an electrical fault in the storeroom that quickly turned into a raging fire. Yet amidst the chaos, heroism emerged. The boys from a neighbouring home were the first to respond, bravely controlling the flames until the army and firefighters arrived. Thanks to their courage and swift action, all our girls were safely evacuated. While the building sustained heavy damage, no lives were lost—a blessing that fueled our determination to rebuild.
THE AFTERMATH: FACING THE DAMAGE
While we were deeply thankful that everyone was safe, the fire left significant challenges in its wake:
- A complete electrical overhaul of the building was needed.
- Essential supplies were destroyed, leaving gaps in daily needs.
- Temporary housing had to be arranged to keep our girls safe and secure
But where there was a loss, there was also extraordinary support.
A COMMUNITY UNITED
The response was overwhelming. Kindness poured in from every corner:
- Local Heroes: Neighbors and friends stepped up immediately.
- International Help: Donations flowed from the UK through Sivan Arul Humanity and from the Australian Sivan Arul Foundation.
- Online Support: Messages of encouragement and contributions via our website warmed our hearts.
Each act of generosity reminded us that we were not alone in this journey.

The rebuilding process is well underway, with a vision for a brighter, safer future:

- Increased Safety Measures: Creating a secure and comforting environment for our girls.
This incredible support came shortly after we were recognised as the top-ranked home among 44 in the Northern region—an honour we proudly dedicate to our resilient community.
